Miming does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers. Almost everything runs fully on your device — the only exception is voice recognition, which uses your device's speech service and may require internet.

1. Overview

Miming ("the app", "we", "our") is a mobile study tool that uses spaced repetition, voice recall, and AI-assisted feedback to help you memorize study notes. This Privacy Policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

We do not operate any servers that receive your data. All processing occurs locally on your device using on-device AI models. Voice recognition may use your device's built-in speech service, which can require an internet connection.

2. Data We Access

Miming requests the following device permissions:

🎤 Microphone

Used for voice recall during memorization sessions. Your speech is processed by your device's built-in speech recognition service, which may require an internet connection depending on your device and OS settings. Audio is never recorded, stored, or sent to Miming's servers.

📷 Camera

Used to capture photos of handwritten notes for on-device OCR (text recognition). Photos are processed locally using ML Kit and are immediately discarded after text is extracted. No images are saved or transmitted.

🔔 Notifications

Used to send daily study reminders and exam countdown alerts at times you choose in the app settings. Notifications are scheduled locally and require no server connection. You can disable them at any time in your device settings or in the app's Profile tab.

3. Data Stored on Your Device

The following data is stored locally using AsyncStorage on your device only:

Study notes you create (title, content, subject)
Memorization progress and spaced-repetition schedules
App preferences (speech rate, pitch, reminder time, exam date)
Study streak and mastery statistics

This data never leaves your device. Uninstalling the app removes all stored data permanently.

4. Data We Do NOT Collect

No account registration or login required
No analytics or usage tracking
No advertising identifiers
No crash reporting sent to external services
No third-party SDKs that transmit data
No location data
No contact list or device identifiers

5. Third-Party Services

Miming does not integrate with any third-party analytics, advertising, or data collection services. The app uses the following on-device libraries:

Expo Speech — text-to-speech, processes text locally
Expo Speech Recognition — voice input via your device's built-in speech service; may require internet depending on device
ML Kit OCR — on-device image text recognition
Expo AV — plays ambient audio files bundled with the app
TensorFlow Lite — on-device AI model for recall evaluation

None of these libraries transmit data to external servers.

6. Children's Privacy

Miming is suitable for users of all ages. Because we collect no personal data, there are no special considerations for users under 13 (COPPA) or under 16 (GDPR). Parents can review note content stored on their child's device at any time.

7. Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control at all times:

Access: All your notes and progress are visible inside the app
Delete: Delete individual notes or clear all data by uninstalling the app
Portability: Your data is stored in standard JSON format on-device
Revoke permissions: Camera, microphone, and notification permissions can be revoked at any time in your device Settings

8. Changes to This Policy

If we update this Privacy Policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date below and note the change in the app's release notes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
